| ZCON is one of the greatest things about owning a Z, and one of the greatest things about participating here at tt.NET. This is a community; it is as much about the people as the cars. There is nothing like getting out from behind the keyboard and interacting with all the characters here. I've met some great people and made some true friends from this forum and from past ZCONs. You will come back from ZCON with great stories and new (or solidified) friendships with forum members and others. All those funny pictures you see on the site of members clowning around? Most of them came from past ZCONs. Exhibit 1:
All of you people who will go to a meet or a show or a track day; ZCON is all of those things rolled into one. Being in a huge caravan of dozen of Z's is a sight and an experience I will probably never forget. It's an awesome feeling to be cruising down the highway watching the faces of people you pass, as the Z's just keep coming.
Syracuse is an awesome place. Beautiful area (Finger Lakes), great twisty roads, friendly people, cheap to eat and drink and lodge (great restaurants and bars, winerys, you name it). Don't think because it's not in a big city it's not worth going. And don't tell me you can't take 2 or 3 days off work, or you can't drive more than a couple hours. It's an easy drive, and besides, you'll be in your Z! Watkins Glen is one of the greatest road courses in the world. Don't squander a great opportunity. [my Watkins Glen writeup: [ http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=general&msg_id=1540203 ] ] Furthermore, the host club is awesome. Great people. I've attended their events before, and all have gone off without a hitch. Here's a pic from their local show last summer (will be same site this year):
Greg and Damon et al put a lot of work into this site, and have bankrolled the banquet dinner at their own expense. I would consider a slap in the face if we couldn;t even drum up enough participation to allow the event to go forward. The ttNET dinner has progressed from an informal gathering at Hooters all the way to a banquet at a country club, and I would hate to see it regress. I know the admins are pretty disappointed. Going to the dinner is a roundabout way of showing your support for their efforts and gives them a little recognition (even though that is not the point of the event). Think of all the info and friendships you have gleaned from this site; how about giving a little back? I definitely place a good part of the blame on 350zforums, whose response has been nil, when we anticipating a decent turnout from them based on their prevalence at smaller regional meets. If, God forbid, the dinner does get cancelled, I for one will refuse a refund. Consider it my donation to the cause. But I certainly hope it doesn't come to that. Bottom line: If you go to ZCON, I guarantee you will have a good time. If you don't, I guarantee you will regret it when the posts and pictures start popping up afterwards.
